If the driver is there, try re-installing it (and make sure you use the newest version, such as the download from the Samsung website that is linked).
When your computer reacts to the device in Download mode but not while it's running tells me you may only have the Android ADB drivers installed. If No: Make sure you have the SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones installed, it should be in your Programs list in Programs and Features (Search for "Programs and Features", or go to Control Panel > Programs and Features). If several cables don't work, or you don't have an extra (and it has worked before), try the No steps below. Try to use the one that came with the device, if possible. Ive tried using Samsungs equivalent to 'find my phone' and her S5 isnt registered.
Ive tried 'safe mode', connecting to a PC with Samsung Kies. In terms of what Ive done so far - Ive tried the power + volume up + home button suggestion to wipe cache - no banana. I've owned several Samsung devices and they're picky about USB cables. But wed really like to get the data stored on the S5.
Reflashing the device is overkill for this me thinks - When you plug your device in, can you see it in your device list in Windows? (Search for "Devices and Printers", or go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers) Then I get stuck at the KitKat logo screen but nothing else.

My friend told me that in nexus5 u can go to storage n u can enable the usb settings but on s6 edge it doesn't show that option as my s6 edge was working with out any issue before and the main problem is that i cant be sure if its a hardware problem or software as the phone displays "charger connected" notification. The usb when connected it doesn't show mtp/ptp and all it does is charge. To be precise its not that usb is not connecting to pc or not recognised.
